Manufacturer: Sun Pharma
Pharmaceutical name: Topiramate
Pack: 10 pills (25 mg)
Topirol (Topiramate) is utilized either on its own or alongside other drugs to prevent and manage seizures (epilepsy). This medication is also effective in preventing migraine headaches and reducing their frequency. However, Topirol will not alleviate a migraine once it has started. If you experience a migraine, treat it as your doctor has advised (for example, by taking pain relievers or resting in a darkened room). Topirol is classified as an anticonvulsant or antiepileptic medication.
Take Topirol orally with or without food as prescribed by your doctor, typically two times a day. Swallow the tablets whole, as breaking them may result in a bitter aftertaste. To help prevent the formation of kidney stones while on this medication, ensure you drink plenty of fluids unless otherwise directed by your doctor. The dosage is determined by your medical condition and how you respond to treatment. For children, the dose is also dependent on weight. Your physician will gradually increase your dosage to minimize the risk of side effects. In some cases, treatment with topiramate may begin at a once-daily dose at bedtime, which will be gradually increased to twice a day. It may take a few weeks or even months to reach the optimal dose for you and to gain the full advantages of this medication.
Consistently take Topirol to maximize its benefits. To help you remember, take it at the same times each day. Do not discontinue Topirol without discussing it with your doctor, as some conditions may deteriorate if the medication is abruptly stopped. Your dosage may need to be reduced gradually. Notify your doctor if your condition continues or worsens.
Fatigue, drowsiness, dizziness, lack of coordination, tingling sensations in the hands and feet, decreased appetite, an unpleasant taste in the mouth, diarrhea, and weight loss may occur. You may also experience mental issues such as confusion, slowed thinking, difficulty concentrating or focusing, anxiety, memory issues, or problems with speech and language. If any of these side effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor or pharmacist without delay.
